Dangerous times in New Mills

New Mills Library
18th August

an adventure was spun out of bear caves and beautiful woods, haunted castles and magic wells. Mermaids rest on rocks down by  the Torrs, lifting picnics from anyone who turns their back, a bawling baby bawls forever and a princess escapes from boredom.

Recipe for an adventure
One red dragon and a friendly fox,
A fair mermaid and a curious cat,
A pinch of house and of magic pool
One lonely princess in a tall tower
A splashing on water over rocks,
And the calls of owls hiding in the trees of the wood

Spell to remember an adventure
By dragon wing and fox face,
By baby's cry and princess' hair,
By mermaid scale and stolen picnic,
This story will be told.
The hills will remember.
And when we sit beside the river,
The whisper of the water over stones will tell us the tale again
